Andrea G. Tzakis, M.D.Andrea G. Tzakis, M.D., is Professor of Surgery and Director of the Liver/GI Transplant Program and Co-Director, Division of Transplantation at the University of Miami School of Medicine.
Dr. Tzakis has participated in over 1,500 liver transplants and was instrumental in developing ground breaking procedures in multivisceral and small bowel transplantation.
     The Liver/GI Transplant team respects the wishes and beliefs of its patients and has performed surgeries without transfusions including liver resections, shunts for portal hypertensions and liver transplantation.
     Under his direction, the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center was the 6th largest liver transplant center (by volume) for 1994 and the third largest in 1995 and 1996.

Stuart R. Toledano, M.D.Stuart R. Toledano, M.D. is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he has been the Director of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology since 1983. Dr. Toledano received the Teaching Award from the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics in 1982 as well as the American Cancer Society's Training Fellow Award from 1977-79, In addition, he has published many articles in medical journals related to Pediatric Oncology, Leukemia and Brain Tumors which are Dr. Toledano's areas of medical expertise.
     Over the years, Dr. Toledano has had extensive experience in treating children of Jehovah's Witness parents.

Hooshang Bolooki M.D., FRCS(C), FACS, FACCHooshang Bolooki M.D., FRCS(C), FACS, FACC is Professor of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine where he is Director of Adult Cardiac Surgery Service. Dr. Bolooki is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and the American Surgical Association. His areas of interest include complicated adult cardiac surgical procedures and reoperations which involve coronary artery bypass surgery, repair and replacement of heart valves, aneurysms of the heart and the aorta as well as thymectomy for myasthenia gravis. Since 1969 he has been a member of the faculty of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and "The Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery" He has been performing open-heart surgery in Jehovah's Witness patients for the past 28 years.

Manuel A. Peņalver, M.D., has been the director of the University of Miami Division of Oncology since 1996, prior to which he was director of the Division of Gynecology since 1989.  In August 1997 he was named to "The Best Doctors for Women" by Good Housekeeping Magazine.   Dr. Peņlaver is highly respected as an educator, having won many honors for his teaching including a 1993 Excellence in Teaching award from the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics.  He has made more than 80 presentations and has more than 60 publications to his credit including textbooks and chapters in such books as "Expert Consultations in Gynecological Cancers."  Dr. Peņalver has performed many successful gynecologic and gynecologic oncology surgeries on Jehovah's Witness patients.

Philip A. Villanueva, M.D.Philip A. Villanueva, M.D., is the director of the Division of Neurotrauma, Department of Neurological Surgery, at the UM/JM Medical Center.   He has been with the department since 1984 and board certified in neurological surgery since 1987.  Dr. Villanueva is an expert in the neurosurgical treatment of traumatic brain injured (TBI) patients.  He also specializes in implanting devices in both TBI and spinal cord injured patients who have pain and spasticity.

Barth A. Green, M.D.Barth A. Green, M.D., chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the UM School of Medicine and chief of neurological surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, is also a professor, researcher, physician and paralysis expert.  He and former Miami Dolphins player Nick Buoniconti founded The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis where Dr. Green is president.  The Miami Project has pioneered research in the regeneration of central nervous system tissue and use of genetic engineering to replace lost nerve cells.  Dr. Green is a third-generation physician who received his medical degree from Indiana University in 1969.  His specific expertise is in the areas of spinal surgery of trauma, degenerative disease and neoplasms.
